A critical step has been taken for Türkiye’s indigenous jet trainer aircraft HÜRJET. According to the statement by TUSAŞ Engine Industries (TEI) President Fahrettin Öztürk, the US Congress has approved the use of F-404 engines in HÜRJET. This development removes one of the significant obstacles to HÜRJET’s transition to mass production, while also strengthening its export potential. The F-404 engine is known as a preferred option for light and medium-class jet platforms and is suitable for trainer aircraft.
Türkiye is also continuing its efforts to develop indigenous engines. Under the leadership of TEI, the TF-6000 engine is being developed for HÜRJET, and the TF-35000 for KAAN. The goal is to integrate these engines into aircraft entirely with domestic resources after their testing phase. The indigenous engine planned for KAAN is expected to enter service in 2032. Accordingly, while KAAN’s Block 10 and Block 20 versions will fly with F-110 engines procured from the US, the Block 30 configuration is planned to take off with the domestic TF-35000 engine.
