The US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt has stationed itself in the Strait of Hormuz. Following this development, F-22 fighter jets are en route to Qatar. This escalation comes after Israel assassinated Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran’s capital, prompting Iran to announce retaliatory attacks against Israel.
The US reiterated its commitment to defending Israel by sending warships and additional fighter jets to the region. The USS Theodore Roosevelt is now positioned just 10 kilometers off the coast of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. According to The New York Times, 12 F-22 fighter jets from the US have reached the UK for refueling and are expected to arrive in Qatar within a few days.
