A Hong Kong Airlines Airbus A320, operating flight HX115 from Hangzhou (HGH) to Hong Kong (HKG), made an emergency landing in Fuzhou, China, due to a fire in the overhead compartment.
Power Bank May Have Caused the Fire
The incident occurred on Thursday, 20 March. It was reported that passengers and crew suspected a power bank might have caused the fire. Footage shared on social media showed passengers and cabin crew attempting to extinguish the flames using water bottles and carton beverages. Leaking liquid from the overhead compartments was also noticeable.
Statement from Hong Kong Airlines
Hong Kong Airlines released a statement regarding the incident:
“Our flight HX115 has safely landed at Fuzhou Changle International Airport due to a fire in the overhead compartment. The fire has been successfully extinguished. All necessary support is being provided to our passengers and cabin crew.”
Flight Tracking Information Shared
According to data from flight tracking platform Flightradar24, the aircraft departed Hangzhou at 12:20 and landed in Fuzhou at 14:01 following the emergency diversion.
A video circulating on social media captured the captain addressing passengers after the fire, announcing that the aircraft would make a precautionary landing in Fuzhou for safety reasons.
No Casualties Reported
No injuries or fatalities were reported following the incident.
