Malta Air Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing with Critical Fuel Level

Malta Air’s Boeing 737-800 landed in Manchester below minimum fuel levels after aborting three approaches. The incident is under safety investigation.

A Boeing 737-800 operated by Malta Air on behalf of Ryanair, flying FR-3418 from Pisa, Italy, to Prestwick, Scotland, landed at Manchester Airport below minimum fuel levels after aborting its approach three times due to adverse weather conditions.

The aircraft, registered 9H-QBD, was forced to go around after its first two attempts on runway 20 at Prestwick Airport. It then diverted to Edinburgh, where it also attempted to land but aborted for a third time. Approximately 110 minutes after the first go-around, the aircraft safely landed on Manchester’s runway 23R.

During the approach to Edinburgh, it was reported that the plane’s fuel had dropped to a critical level, leaving only 220 kilograms remaining (100 kg in the left tank, 120 kg in the right tank). This amount is considered below the minimum fuel limit required for flight operations.

An official investigation into the incident has been launched, with experts highlighting the importance of fuel planning and contingency scenarios in unexpected weather conditions for flight safety.
