In line with criteria including the level of operational complexity, the impact on passenger experience during disruptions, and sustainable growth management, Istanbul Airport was deemed worthy of the Cirium Airport Platinum Award.
The Platinum Award is Cirium’s most prestigious distinction, going beyond traditional on-time departure metrics by jointly evaluating multi-layered operational parameters such as high traffic volume, multi-wave (bank) structures, hub density, transfer passenger flows, and recovery capability in IRROPS scenarios.
Resilience and Scale Management in Mega Hub Operations
Located at the intersection of Europe, Asia, and Africa, Istanbul Airport drew attention with its success in maintaining operational continuity despite increasing flight numbers, an expanding airline portfolio, and growing transfer traffic. In Cirium’s assessment, the airport’s capabilities were particularly highlighted in terms of:

Last Year’s Recipient Was Bogotá
The 2024 recipient of the Cirium Airport Platinum Award was El Dorado International Airport, located in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. The award being given to Istanbul Airport in 2025 demonstrated that the focal point of managing operational complexity on a global scale has shifted towards the Europe–Asia corridor.
