Boeing 737 Lost Communication on Stansted Approach

A Ryanair flight from Valencia to London signalled a loss of communication during its Stansted approach. The aircraft landed safely 30 minutes later.

A Malta Air Boeing 737-800 operating on behalf of Ryanair from Valencia to London signalled a temporary loss of communication during its approach to Stansted Airport. The aircraft landed safely within 30 minutes.

The aircraft, registered 9H-QCJ and operating Ryanair flight FR-642, experienced the incident on the Valencia (Spain) – London Stansted (United Kingdom) route.

While on approach to Stansted at FL090 (9,000 feet), the aircraft entered a holding pattern and set its transponder to the communication failure code (7600). The event caused brief concern for air traffic control.

About 15 minutes later, the aircraft left the holding pattern and proceeded to runway 04. Roughly 30 minutes after entering the hold, it landed at Stansted without incident.

Following around 4.5 hours of technical checks on the ground, the aircraft returned to service. No safety risks or injuries were reported.
