Flight SG 9282, operated by SpiceJet and bound for Mumbai from Delhi, was forced to return to the gate before takeoff after two unruly passengers attempted to move toward the cockpit. The incident caused tension among passengers and resulted in a long delay.
According to a statement from SpiceJet, the passengers ignored repeated instructions from the cabin crew and the captain to return to their seats. As a result, and in line with security protocols, the aircraft was pulled back to the terminal.
“Turn on the AC, and we’ll sit”: Conflict Captured on Camera
Footage taken by a fellow passenger quickly circulated on social media, showing others confronting the unruly duo, saying “What you’re doing is illegal.” In response, the disruptive passengers reportedly said, “AC chala de, hum baith jayenge” (“Turn on the air conditioning, we’ll sit”).
As the situation escalated, several passengers urged the crew to call in CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) personnel. The cabin crew coordinated with the captain to cancel the takeoff and return the aircraft to the gate.
Security Concerns Lead to Major Delay
According to Flightradar24, the flight was scheduled to depart at 12:30 PM but only took off at 7:21 PM — a delay of nearly seven hours, highlighting the seriousness of the disruption.
SpiceJet stated that the safety of the aircraft was its top priority and confirmed that the disruptive passengers were deboarded and handed over to CISF officers for further action.
The flight later proceeded to Mumbai without further incident and landed safely at 9:05 PM.
