World’s Busiest Air Routes Announced: Asia Takes the Lead

It has been revealed that nearly half of the world’s busiest air routes are located in Asia. According to statistics published by Eurocontrol, no air routes in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland made it onto the list of the world’s top 100 busiest air routes. This highlights that air traffic in Europe remains lower compared to other regions.

Domestic Flights in Germany Continue to Decline

According to data from the German Aviation Association (BDL), domestic flight capacity in Germany has only reached 50% of 2019 levels. With no visible signs of recovery in the domestic market, Germany has completely disappeared from the list of the busiest air routes.

Asia-Pacific Region Dominates

Among the world’s top 100 busiest air routes, the Asia-Pacific region leads by a significant margin with 45 routes. This is followed by 26 routes in the North Atlantic and 12 routes in Europe. In contrast, the South Atlantic, Mid-Atlantic, Middle East, and Africa regions show comparatively lower traffic volumes.

Europe’s Busiest Route: Dublin–London

The busiest air route in Europe is the Dublin–London route, with an average of 91 flights per day. However, globally, this route only ranks 28th. Meanwhile, the Amsterdam–London route is the second busiest in Europe and ranks 37th globally.

Domestic Flights Dominate the Top 10

The world’s 10 busiest air routes are all domestic flights, with the Asia-Pacific region standing out due to its high passenger volumes. These statistics reveal significant regional differences within the aviation industry, showcasing the varying dynamics across global air travel markets.
