When Will Turkey-Syria Flights Resume? Official Announcement Released

Efforts to resume flights between Turkey and Syria have gained momentum following the change in administration in Syria. Es’had Slaybi, General Director of Syria’s Civil Aviation Authority, made a significant statement regarding the matter. Slaybi announced that Turkey-Syria flights are expected to commence within a week.

Damascus International Airport Opens to International Flights

Damascus International Airport, which had been closed on December 8 following the fall of the Assad regime, has resumed operations after a long hiatus. The first domestic flight was conducted on December 18, and as of today, the airport is also open to international flights. The first international flight was to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The aircraft, which departed from Sharjah, landed in Damascus with 145 Syrian passengers on board.

Additionally, a passenger plane from Doha, Qatar, successfully landed at Damascus International Airport.

Turkey-Syria Flights Set to Begin

General Director Es’had Slaybi stated that the official processes to resume flights between Turkey and Syria are ongoing. In his statement, Slaybi remarked:

“We have sent a letter to Turkey’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation to obtain approval. We expect a response within two days. If the process proceeds as planned, we anticipate that Turkey-Syria flights will start within a week.”

Slaybi also noted that Aleppo International Airport would open to international flights in the coming days.
