Vueling Airlines, Spain’s second-largest airline, made its inaugural flight to Istanbul Airport on October 29th, Republic Day. Offering low-cost air travel services, Vueling Airlines has become the 109th scheduled airline at Istanbul Airport, making a strong entry into the Turkish market with flights from Barcelona to Istanbul.
Vueling Airlines Completed Its First Flight to Istanbul Airport
Spain-based Vueling Airlines conducted flight VY-7850 from Barcelona to Istanbul Airport, carrying 182 passengers on its Airbus 320-200 aircraft. A ceremony was held at Gate B12 of the international arrivals terminal to celebrate the airline’s first landing at Istanbul Airport. The event was attended by IGA Aviation Development Director Fırat Ocak, IGA Aviation Development Manager Gizem Çolak, Vueling Airlines Regional Manager Gonzalo Fernandez Ruiz, and other officials.

Fırat Ocak, IGA Aviation Development Director, expressed great satisfaction in welcoming Vueling Airlines to Istanbul Airport during the 101st anniversary of the Republic. He emphasized the added value Vueling Airlines brings to Istanbul Airport, stating, “Vueling Airlines is one of Spain’s leading low-cost carriers. Initially, they will operate three flights a week from Barcelona, but our goal is to increase this to seven flights per week in the near future.”
Flights Strengthening Cultural Ties
Vueling Airlines Regional Manager Gonzalo Fernandez Ruiz thanked Istanbul Airport officials for organizing the ceremony and fostering collaboration. Ruiz stated, “Starting flights to Istanbul is an important step for Vueling; our flight network has expanded today, and we aim to build a cultural bridge between Barcelona and Istanbul.”

With three weekly flights planned between Barcelona and Istanbul, Vueling Airlines provides convenient access to popular Spanish destinations such as the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, and other European cities. The aim is to increase the number of flights in the near future to establish daily service and strengthen the connections between Istanbul and Barcelona.
