The USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, belonging to the US Navy, collided with the Panama-flagged cargo ship “Beşiktaş-M” off the coast of Egypt. The incident occurred near the city of Port Said.
In a statement from the US Navy, it was emphasized that the collision did not pose a threat to the aircraft carrier, and no flooding or injuries were reported. The statement read: “The propulsion systems remain unaffected, and the ship is in a safe and stable condition. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.”
Since December 2023, USS Harry S. Truman has been operating in the Red Sea as part of a mission to counter attacks on commercial and military vessels launched by Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen.
