An unusual incident occurred at Russia’s Sochi Airport when a passenger aircraft arriving from Tel Aviv struck a rabbit that had suddenly appeared on the runway during landing. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the aircraft was safely towed to the parking area.
The Superjet-100 passenger plane, arriving from Tel Aviv, collided with the rabbit just moments after landing at Sochi Airport, located on Russia’s Black Sea coast.
Reports indicate that the aircraft made a smooth touchdown and came into contact with the animal within seconds. Following the collision, the aircraft was directed to the parking area in accordance with safety procedures. Technical inspections are ongoing to determine whether the aircraft sustained any damage.
Runway Safety Back in the Spotlight
The incident has raised fresh concerns about runway safety. Wildlife on runways poses a significant risk to the safety of take-offs and landings, and airport authorities are now expected to enhance their environmental control measures.
