United Airlines Receives Approval for First Boeing 737-800 with Starlink

United Airlines has taken an important step to elevate the in-flight internet experience to a new level. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved the use of the Starlink internet system on the airline’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft. This decision also paved the way for the first commercial flight, scheduled for October 15.

The FAA’s amendment to the supplemental type certificate documents that the Starlink equipment complies with safety and operational standards. United’s first Starlink-equipped Boeing 737-800 is expected to depart from the Newark/New York area.

Success in Regional Fleet Expands to Mainline Aircraft

In May 2025, United had introduced Starlink in its regional aircraft fleet and received 90% positive feedback from passengers. Thanks to the high-speed and uninterrupted connection, passengers were able to seamlessly enjoy services such as streaming, gaming, and shopping during the flight.

United Vice President of Digital Technology Grant Milstead said, “Our customers love the experience that Starlink offers. With our first mainline aircraft, we will deliver this superior experience to a wider audience. Starlink will bring in-flight entertainment into a new era.”

Lighter, More Reliable, More Durable

United prefers Starlink not only to enhance passenger experience but also for its operational advantages. Compared to alternative equipment, the Starlink system is lighter, weather-resistant, and quicker to install. This provides critical advantages such as fuel efficiency and ease of maintenance.

As part of the FAA certification process, the design, installation, testing, and safety approvals of the system were completed. United continues to obtain the necessary certifications for Starlink installation on more than 16 aircraft models.
