Six Injured Transported to Hospital
According to United Airlines spokesperson Leslie Scott’s statement to CNN, six individuals injured during the flight were taken to a hospital in Lagos and discharged after treatment. Scott mentioned that while the exact cause remains unclear, there was no evidence of severe turbulence. The airline is cooperating with aviation authorities in the U.S. and Nigeria to investigate the incident.
Flight Data: Sudden Descent Noticed
Data shared by FlightRadar24 showed that flight 613 rapidly lost altitude approximately 93 minutes after takeoff. It was reported that a similar incident occurred earlier on Tuesday when the aircraft had to change course. However, a connection between the two incidents has not yet been confirmed.

United Airlines stated that the flight carried 245 passengers, eight cabin crew members, and three pilots. The airline announced efforts to rebook affected passengers on alternative flights. Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority official Michael Achimugu confirmed the incident and stated that no fatalities occurred. He also noted that passengers were temporarily accommodated in hotels.
Similar Incidents: The Boeing 787 Case
This incident recalls a similar case in March last year involving a Latam Airlines aircraft that prompted a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) investigation. In that case, a pilot seat malfunction was found to have caused the aircraft’s loss of control. Following the event, Boeing issued warnings to airlines to inspect cockpit seats.
