Ukraine Shares Russian Aircraft Data with the US

Ukraine regularly transmits radar data from Russian fighter jets to the United States to facilitate the reprogramming of AN/ALQ-131 electronic countermeasure systems. According to a report by 19FortyFive, these systems are integrated into the American-made F-16 fighter jets delivered to Ukraine in July 2024.

According to the details of the report, the radar data collected by Ukraine is used to update the threat library of the AN/ALQ-131 system on F-16 fighter jets. Sources in Kyiv state that Russia continuously updates its radar systems, and Ukraine responds by persistently identifying gaps and updating its systems to maintain a competitive edge.

However, it is reported that Ukraine risks losing this advantage due to the termination of intelligence cooperation. A source speaking to 19FortyFive indicated that this situation could leave Ukraine blind and constrained.

Meanwhile, a representative of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, Yuriy Ignat, stated that the F-16 fighter jets sent to Ukraine would not be able to compete directly with Russian Su-35s. Ignat emphasised that American fighter jets are relatively older in terms of modernisation compared to their Russian counterparts, highlighting that achieving air superiority would require not only fighter jets but also ground-based air defence and electronic warfare systems.
