Ukraine and the Netherlands have reached an agreement for the joint production of long-range attack-capable unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) within the framework of the “Build with Ukraine” initiative.
The agreement was announced during a meeting in Kyiv between Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans.
Next-Generation Joint Production Initiative
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Shmyhal emphasised that the cooperation would make a significant contribution to Ukraine’s defence capacity:
“On a day when Russia is carrying out intense attacks on our energy and civilian infrastructure, this visit holds great meaning for us. I shared with my counterpart the consequences of the attacks that occurred throughout the night.”
The parties also discussed the technical and administrative details regarding the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The new agreement covers areas such as production line establishment, R&D activities, system integration, and strengthening of the supply chain.
€110 Million Joint Investment
Prime Minister Shmyhal stated that the cooperation includes a joint investment worth €110 million and added:
“Within this framework, we plan to jointly produce long-range attack UAVs in the Netherlands. Thanks to the ‘Build with Ukraine’ initiative, we will make our defence industry infrastructure more modern and resilient.”
The meeting also addressed issues such as increasing the number of UAVs used on the front line, developing long-range attack systems, and expanding sanctions against Russia.
A New Era in European Defence Cooperation
This agreement represents a new phase in the joint initiatives of European countries aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defence industry capacity.
Within the framework of the “Build with Ukraine” programme, projects carried out with Western partners aim to contribute directly to Ukraine’s technological independence and production capacity.
