Türkiye’s national jet trainer aircraft, HÜRJET, has successfully completed its 300th flight as part of its ongoing testing process. Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), HÜRJET once again showcased the remarkable progress of Türkiye’s defence industry.
President of Defence Industry Agency (SSB) Prof. Dr Haluk Görgün announced the development in a statement shared on his official social media account. Görgün said:
“HÜRJET, one of the symbolic projects of our national aviation, has successfully completed its 300th test flight. Having made its maiden flight in the centenary of our Republic and developed through Turkish engineering, HÜRJET is not merely a jet aircraft but a manifestation of perseverance, capability, and strategic determination meeting our skies. Reaching supersonic speeds and drawing attention with its performance across three continents, this platform continues to embody Türkiye’s ambition in the field of aviation. I wholeheartedly congratulate our TUSAŞ team, along with all our engineers, technicians, pilots, and stakeholders who contributed to this success.”
Supersonic Achievements and Records
Launched in August 2017, the HÜRJET project began taxi tests on 18 March 2023 and conducted its maiden flight on 25 April 2023.
Designed and built by Turkish engineers, HÜRJET has frequently made headlines with its flights and record-breaking performances.
On 21 October 2024, taking off from Mürted Airfield, HÜRJET reached Mach 1.01, becoming the first domestically produced aircraft to break the sound barrier. On 17 April 2025, TUSAŞ announced that HÜRJET had achieved Mach 1.2, marking the beginning of a new era in supersonic jet training.
International Expansion: HÜRJET Bound for Spain
Türkiye’s domestically produced HÜRJET is attracting great interest in the international defence market. In December 2024, Türkiye and Spain signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the joint development of HÜRJET.
At the FEINDEF Fair held on 14 May 2025, an industrial cooperation plan was launched between Airbus, TUSAŞ, and 15 Spanish companies.
According to statements by Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles, under the €1.375 billion programme, the first six aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2028, with the total number expected to reach 18 by 2029.
According to information published in Spain’s Official Gazette, up to 45 HÜRJET aircraft will be produced within the scope of the project. The aircraft will initially be manufactured at TUSAŞ facilities and later adapted at Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus DS España) facilities to meet the operational requirements of the Spanish Air and Space Force.
Serial Production Underway
Serial production of HÜRJET, developed by TUSAŞ engineers, continues at full speed. The first deliveries are planned to be made to the Turkish Air Force Command in 2026.
As a technological ambassador representing Türkiye’s defence industry vision in the skies, HÜRJET continues to write a global success story in both training and supersonic flight.
