Within the scope of the 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025), Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) and MİRAS Defense Industry Company, affiliated with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, signed a comprehensive cooperation protocol in the field of defense and aviation.
According to TUSAŞ, the protocol covers multi-faceted cooperation including joint project development, modernization, maintenance and repair, and international marketing aimed at enhancing the defense capabilities of both countries.
Russian-origin Aircraft to Be Modernized
Within the framework of the protocol, TUSAŞ and MİRAS will collaborate primarily on the modernization, maintenance, and repair of Russian-origin fighter jets and helicopters. As a result, older generation platforms in Azerbaijan’s inventory will be rebuilt using Turkish engineering expertise.
International Marketing to Be Conducted Jointly
The parties also agreed to cooperate commercially as well as technically. The international marketing processes for the developed products and services will be carried out in coordination by both companies. This signifies a new synergy between Turkey and Azerbaijan in regional defense industry exports.
From Brotherhood to Strategic Partnership
TUSAŞ officials emphasised that this cooperation “transforms the historical and cultural brotherhood between the two countries into a defense industry strategy.” Representatives from MİRAS stated that the cooperation will deepen in the long term with technology transfer, employment, and joint production.
