TÜRKONFED Issues Warning to Green Passport Holders About Chip-Enabled Passports

The Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED) Tourism Commission has raised concerns regarding green passports extended with stamps during the pandemic, warning that they may cause issues during international travel. The organization urged passport holders to obtain chip-enabled passports.

“Chip-Enabled Passports Are Essential”

In a statement, TÜRKONFED Tourism Commission Chair Mehmet Gem emphasized that green passports with validity extended via stamps to 2026-2027 or beyond during the pandemic are not recognized as valid by airport security authorities. This has led to travel disruptions and financial and emotional losses for travelers.

“Many citizens who believe their passports are valid are unable to join their tours and face difficulties because they have not obtained chip-enabled passports. All individuals with stamped green passports must immediately apply for chip-enabled passports at their respective population directorates to avoid these issues,” said Gem.

Increased Travel Difficulties

Stamped passport extensions are not considered valid abroad, especially during airport security checks. This has resulted in missed tours, canceled trips, and financial losses, causing significant inconvenience to travelers.

TÜRKONFED called on passport holders to verify the validity of their passports before planning international trips and to make necessary updates promptly to avoid potential issues.
