Amateur Pilot and Electrical Engineer Mehmet Demirci had an Accident in Artvin Skies

Mehmet Demirci, one of Turkey’s most respected electrical engineers and amateur pilots, was involved in an accident while flying over Artvin as part of his world tour. The 57-year-old was piloting a Mooney M20J aircraft, registered TC-RTO, which crashed during the flight. Both Demirci and his passenger sustained injuries.

A Passion for Aviation Turns Into a World Tour

Having achieved numerous successful projects throughout his career as an electrical engineer, Mehmet Demirci had also cultivated a strong passion for aviation. After earning his pilot’s license, he gained experience flying various aircraft along different routes. His dream of a world tour became a reality as he aimed to further develop his piloting skills across international airspace. Well-known and respected within Turkey’s aviation community, Demirci launched his journey from Sivrihisar with the intention of showcasing his flying capabilities beyond national borders.

Unfortunate Crash in Artvin

The single-engine Mooney M20J aircraft piloted by Demirci lost altitude over Artvin for reasons yet to be determined and crashed. Both occupants of the aircraft were seriously injured. Emergency and medical teams quickly arrived at the scene to provide first aid. While the injured are currently receiving treatment, an investigation into the cause of the crash has been launched.

Mehmet Demirci is recognised as one of the rare individuals who successfully applied his engineering expertise to aviation. Thanks to his technical background and deep passion for flying, he has been a role model in Turkey’s amateur aviation scene. He was especially known for his projects that inspired young aviation enthusiasts.

Aviation Community in Mourning

Following the accident, Turkey’s aviation community—including civil aviation bodies and amateur pilot groups—expressed deep sorrow. Numerous get-well messages for Demirci flooded social media and aviation platforms.
