The Turkish defence industry has achieved a historic milestone with Kale Group’s export of the KTJ-3200 Turbojet Missile Engine to Brazil. The sale of Türkiye’s first domestically produced turbojet missile engine abroad marks the beginning of a new era in the country’s high-technology exports. Now, attention is focused on the ongoing negotiations to include this engine in the inventories of more countries.
Kale Group Vice Chairman of the Board Osman Okyay stated at the 4th Investment Summit held in İzmir, “We aim to sign export agreements with two more countries within 2025.”
Global League in Jet Engine Technology
Kale Group’s jet engine projects, initiated in 2012, have positioned Türkiye among the select countries capable of producing such advanced technologies. The company currently continues mass production of three different turbojet engine models. These engines are actively used in the Turkish defence industry’s cruise missiles, jet, and kamikaze UAV projects.
Okyay said, “Our engines are currently in their second year of serial production. In addition, we have four new development projects underway. We are working with all our strength to meet Türkiye’s engine needs through domestic resources.”
Brazil Export and New Markets
Delivered to the Brazilian Navy in April 2025, the KTJ-3200 Turbojet Missile Engine went down in history as Türkiye’s first export in this field. Used in Brazil’s new generation cruise missiles, the engine has created a strong impression in international defence circles.
Okyay stated, “Developing a jet engine is a strategic capability for countries with missile programmes. We are currently in export negotiations with 10–12 countries, and we plan to finalise agreements with one or two more before the end of the year.”
İzmir: The Rising Centre of the Defence Industry
ESİAD Chairperson Sibel Zorlu, speaking at the summit, emphasised İzmir’s vast potential in the defence and aerospace sectors. The city’s free zones, technoparks, and R&D centres, along with the aerospace cluster in the Aegean Free Zone, are contributing to the strengthening of domestic production infrastructure.
Zorlu said, “With its qualified human resources and capital structure, İzmir is poised to become one of the new hubs of the defence industry.”
Türkiye’s Global Ambition
Jet engine production is one of the high-technology fields achieved by only a few countries in the world. Türkiye’s rapid progress in this area is seen as a concrete reflection of the national defence industry’s strategy to reduce external dependency.
Kale Group’s export to Brazil is not only a commercial success but also an international demonstration of Türkiye’s vision for technological independence.
