Turkish Airlines (THY) is preparing to solidify its leadership in global aviation as it marks its 100th anniversary in 2033. In a statement shared on social media, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee, Prof. Dr Ahmet Bolat, outlined a series of ambitious targets ranging from fleet expansion to passenger capacity.
“Our Ascent to the Summit Continues”
Summarising Turkish Airlines’ growth journey from past to present, Prof. Dr Bolat noted that the fleet, which consisted of only 27 aircraft in 1982, is set to reach its 500th aircraft by 2024. He highlighted that THY’s seat capacity had increased from 4 million in 1981 to 254 billion in 2024, stating: “That’s an increase of exactly 63,500 times.”
1 Billion Passengers, 813 Aircraft, Second in the World
Announcing that Turkish Airlines had carried a total of 1 billion passengers as of 2023, Bolat summarised the airline’s 2033 vision with the following words:
“Our 2033 goal: a fleet of 813 aircraft, 171 million passengers, and second place globally in seat capacity. We are meticulously planning for these ambitious targets and working with determination and dedication.”
Flying into the Future with Digitalisation
Bolat also emphasised THY’s digital transformation in his post, stating that the computerisation process, which began in 1982, continues today with a global digital vision. He noted that Turkish Airlines aims to become one of the world’s top three most digital airlines, adding: “We are improving all our processes with digital infrastructures. From a boutique airline to a global giant, our journey to the summit continues with resolve.”
