Turkish Airlines (THY) has reinstated flights to Damascus and Aleppo, destinations removed from its network 13 years ago due to the civil war in Syria. These cities are now available as options on THY’s website and mobile applications for flight planning.
Civil War in Syria Ends
On December 8, the 13-year-long civil war in Syria officially ended following the ousting of the Assad regime. This development accelerated THY’s efforts to resume flights to Syria. Due to security concerns during the war, Damascus and Aleppo International Airports were excluded from the airline’s routes.
Flights to Damascus and Aleppo Resume
After extensive evaluations in the post-war period, THY has reintroduced these two key destinations to its network. Reservations for flights to Damascus and Aleppo are now open via the airline’s flight scheduling system.
Technical Assessment by DHMI General Manager
Enes Çakmak, General Manager of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ), visited Syria with a team to conduct technical assessments. In a statement shared on his social media account, Çakmak noted:
“We are one big family, Halep-Sham Airport.”
Following these assessments, THY is expected to begin regular flights to Damascus and Aleppo in the near future.
