Turkish Airlines Chairman Ahmet Bolat: “We Are Not Aiming to Own Air Europa”
Turkish Airlines (THY) Chairman Ahmet Bolat made statements regarding the cooperation and equity investment with Air Europa. THY’s goal is not to own the company but to conduct joint operations.
Speaking to journalists in Seville, THY Chairman Ahmet Bolat evaluated the airline’s relationship with Spanish carrier Air Europa. Bolat emphasized that THY has no plans to increase its shareholding in Air Europa, stating:
“We are interested in working with the company, not owning Air Europa.”
THY’s Investment in Air Europa
Bolat noted that through a 300 million euro convertible bond investment, THY will hold a 25–27% stake in Air Europa’s capital. He stated that this investment strengthens the company’s partnership objectives.
He added that the investment agreement was approved by International Airlines Group (IAG), which holds a 20% stake in Air Europa, and that offers from other airlines were not accepted by shareholders.
“The airlines that submitted offers were not accepted by shareholders due to the business models they proposed.”
