Turkish Airlines Flight TK1587 to Frankfurt Declares Emergency, Returns to Istanbul

A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-300 operating as flight TK1587 from Istanbul Airport to Frankfurt declared an emergency mid-flight and returned to Istanbul.

According to a statement from Turkish Airlines, the aircraft took off from Istanbul Airport at 09:10 AM local time and issued a general emergency notification using the 7700 transponder code. Following the emergency announcement, the aircraft began its descent from FL200 (20,000 feet) to FL110 as it prepared to return to Istanbul, ensuring a safe descent.

Landing and Weather Conditions

At 07:05 UTC, as the aircraft approached Istanbul, it was directed for landing at an altitude of 10,000 feet. Weather conditions were suitable for a safe landing during the emergency; visibility exceeded 10 kilometers, with runways RWY 34/35/36 active for landing. Following the emergency request, flight TK1587 made a successful landing at Istanbul Airport at 07:30 UTC. No official statement has been made regarding the cause of the emergency.

The Airbus A330-300 operating flight TK1587 is registered as TC-JNI and has been in service for 14.1 years. First delivered to Turkish Airlines in 2010, the aircraft has been an active part of the national airline’s fleet since then.
