A technical incident occurred after landing on Turkish Airlines’ (THY) flight TK-1721 from Istanbul to Berlin. The Boeing 777-300 aircraft, registered TC-JJY and part of THY’s fleet, landed smoothly at Berlin Airport, but was stopped on the taxiway after signs of overheating were detected in the braking system.
The flight had departed from Istanbul Airport en route to Germany’s capital, Berlin. The aircraft made a successful landing on runway 25L at Berlin Airport. However, after covering approximately 1,900 metres (6,200 feet) on the runway and nearing the first high-speed taxiway exit, the cockpit crew noticed unusual signs of brake overheating.
Following procedures, the crew safely stopped the aircraft on a parallel taxiway. Smoke was observed rising from underneath the plane, and emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene. Upon inspection, they confirmed that one of the braking systems had overheated.
All passengers and crew on board were reported to be in good health. No injuries or casualties occurred, and no visible damage to the aircraft was noted.
After undergoing the necessary technical checks and a wait of around three hours on the ground, the aircraft resumed operations, taking off from Berlin for its return journey as flight TK-1722.
