Turkish Airlines flight TK612, en route from Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport to Istanbul, was unable to proceed to its planned destination due to security measures.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), a state-supported body, announced that the Airbus A333 aircraft safely circled Uganda’s airspace for over three hours to reduce its weight to the required safe landing threshold. The aircraft successfully returned to Entebbe International Airport on Sunday at 10:50 AM.
The UCAA confirmed that all 269 individuals onboard were safe. However, no further details were provided regarding the nature of the security issue. The statement highlighted that “the precautions taken are standard safety procedures within the aviation industry.”
Authorities noted that investigations into the incident are ongoing, adding that all passengers onboard were in good health.
