Turkish Airlines Aims for Regional Leadership in Cuba! Occupancy Rate Hits 86%

Turkish Airlines (THY), recognized as the airline flying to the most countries in the world, has achieved remarkable success with its Cuba routes. As of 2024, the occupancy rates of THY’s flights to Cuba have impressively risen to 86%.

2024 Cuba Flights: Istanbul-Havana with 5 Weekly Frequencies

Turkish Airlines began its Havana operations in 2017. THY’s Havana Manager, Erkan İnce, announced that the 2024 winter schedule includes five weekly flights between Istanbul and Havana. İnce stated, “This year, we carried 110,000 passengers with an occupancy rate of 86%. Of these, 75% were transit passengers continuing from Istanbul to Havana,” he noted.

Transit Passengers Make Up 75%

A significant portion of passengers on Turkish Airlines’ Cuba flights are transit travelers. İnce emphasized that most of these transit passengers come from Belgrade, Athens, Bucharest, Sofia, and Northern European countries. “We facilitate transportation for travelers arriving in Cuba, primarily from the Northern Hemisphere. During the winter schedule, we observe an increase in passenger numbers,” he explained.

THY’s Competitive Edge in Cuba

Several factors contribute to Turkish Airlines’ strong presence in Cuba. İnce highlighted that THY’s extensive flight network and exceptional in-flight services are key differentiators. He stated, “We are the airline flying to the most countries globally. This is our greatest advantage. We operate in 130 countries, and our recent Santiago de Chile route earned us recognition in the Guinness World Records.”

Additionally, İnce noted that the airline’s catering services play a significant role in passengers’ preference for THY.

Growth Potential in the Cuban Market

As Turkish Airlines’ influence in the Cuban market continues to grow, an increase in flight frequencies is expected in the coming years. İnce shared, “We are observing a parallel rise in our occupancy rates as we increase flight frequencies. I hope that our number of frequencies will grow further in the future,” he concluded.
