A Turkish Airlines (THY) Airbus A330-200, operating flight TK-709 from Karachi, Pakistan to Istanbul, aborted its takeoff due to a bird strike.
The aircraft, registered as TC-JIT, was accelerating on runway 25L at Karachi Jinnah International Airport when the cockpit crew encountered a bird strike at approximately 110 knots (around 200 km/h). Following the incident, the pilots safely aborted the takeoff.
The aircraft decelerated in a controlled manner, vacated the runway, and returned to the apron. A technical inspection of the engines revealed bird feathers on the fan blades of the PW4168 engine. Turkish Airlines’ technical teams grounded the aircraft to perform further checks on the affected engine.
Due to safety procedures and ongoing technical inspections, the aircraft remains on the ground in Karachi approximately 18 hours after the incident. Passengers were informed and guided according to the airline’s procedures.
Turkish Airlines officials stated: “Passenger and flight safety is our top priority. All necessary inspections are being carried out meticulously.”
