Turkish Aeronautical Association to Reemerge in 2025

The Trustee Board Chairman of the Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK), Kemal Yurtnaç, announced that significant strides have been made in resolving the institution’s administrative and financial issues. He stated that by 2025, the 100th anniversary of its establishment, THK will adopt a completely revitalized structure.

Debts Reduced, Revenues Increased

Recalling that THK was founded in 1925 by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Yurtnaç emphasized their focus on reducing the institution’s debts and restructuring its administrative framework since assuming office.

  • Despite financial and legal challenges since 2010, the institution’s debt has been reduced from $140 million to $122 million.
  • Revenue has increased by 40%.

Yurtnaç expressed his determination: “By 2025, we will have fully eliminated our debts, transforming THK into a strong organization once again in service of our nation.”

Serving Youth and Promoting Aviation Sports

Yurtnaç highlighted THK’s efforts to engage young people, emphasizing that introducing them to alternative activities is the best way to steer them away from harmful dependencies. Collaborative projects are ongoing with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Turkish Air Sports Federation, and the Intercollegiate Sports Federation.

THK’s aviation training centers currently offer courses in the following areas:

  • Gliders, parachuting, and paragliding
  • Microlight, gyrocopter, and drone operations

In 2023, THK provided training to 1,500 individuals, and Yurtnaç expressed their ambition to increase this figure in 2024. These training programs are held at aviation centers in Antalya Karain, İzmir Selçuk, Eskişehir İnönü, Etimesgut Türkkuşu, and Erzincan.

2025: Centennial Celebrations

Yurtnaç announced that extensive preparations are underway for THK’s 100th anniversary, with a mission to make aviation accessible to all segments of society:

  • “We will celebrate the 100th anniversary of this pioneering institution, the heart of aviation, with events across the country.”
  • “These celebrations will serve as an opportunity to further carry THK’s legacy forward.”

The Future of THK: A Stronger Institution

Yurtnaç underlined that by 2025, THK will operate with a fully modernized financial and administrative structure dedicated to serving the Turkish people. “We will leave a stronger, more robust THK as a legacy for future generations,” he said.
