Marking a major milestone in Turkey’s defense industry, the National Aircraft Carrier (MUGEM) was showcased for the first time at SAHA EXPO 2024. The model of MUGEM, displayed at the Istanbul Fair Center, attracted significant attention with its cutting-edge technological features.
MUGEM is planned to have a capacity for 50 air platforms, aiming to significantly enhance the operational power of the Turkish Navy. The design includes space for 30 military aircraft in the hangar and 20 on the flight deck. The platform is set to accommodate advanced aircraft such as HÜRJET, Bayraktar TB3, KIZILELMA, and ANKA-III.

During the ceremony at SAHA EXPO, Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, Commander of the Turkish Navy, provided details on the second aircraft carrier to be built following TCG ANADOLU. He emphasized the strategic importance of this project for the Turkish Navy, noting that the new carrier will be between 260-280 meters in length.
At the New Naval Platforms Delivery Ceremony, attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Defense Industry President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün highlighted the significance of the decisions regarding the national aircraft carrier taken during the Defense Industry Executive Committee meeting in January 2024.
Technical Specifications of MUGEM
MUGEM will boast a displacement capacity of 60,000 tons, making it a formidable asset. Some of its key technical features include:
- Length: 285 meters
- Speed: Maximum cruising speed of 25 knots
- Crew Capacity: 400-500 personnel
- Operational Range: Capable of 10,000 nautical miles with a 60-day operational endurance without resupply
- Platform Capacity: 50 air platforms, including 20 on the upper deck and 30 in the hangar
