Pakistan-based airline Air Blue has designated Turkey as a key stopover point for its Islamabad-Manchester flights, set to commence on March 18. The airline will take a technical stop at Ordu-Giresun Airport during these flights. Turkey’s geographical advantages and strategic location are increasingly standing out in the global aviation sector.
Turkey has become a preferred hub for meeting airlines’ technical stop needs, particularly for long-haul flights.
Technical Stops: The Vital Pause in Aviation
A technical stop is a planned layover on long-haul flights to address requirements such as refueling, maintenance, crew changes, or other technical needs. These stops become essential, especially when the flight distance exceeds the aircraft’s fuel capacity. Additionally, factors like weather conditions, load balancing, and operational planning play a crucial role in selecting technical stop locations.
Turkey is not only on Air Blue’s radar but is also favored by other airlines. For instance, Biman Bangladesh Airlines uses Istanbul for its Toronto flights, while Somon Air opts for Trabzon Airport as a technical stopover for its Dushanbe-Munich routes.
