Turkey is set to enhance its airlift capabilities by acquiring 12 Super Hercules (C-130J-30) transport aircraft previously retired from service by the United Kingdom. These extended fuselage models will strengthen the Turkish Air Force’s tactical and logistical operations.
Stored in Cambridge, Now Bound for Turkey
The aircraft, part of a fleet of 15 retired by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and stored in Cambridge, include both Hercules C4 and C5 variants. Turkey has opted for the C-130J-30 extended fuselage models. Reports suggest that the deal might also include one standard C-130J aircraft.
A Significant Boost to the Current Fleet
The Turkish Air Force currently operates C-130B and C-130E models. The addition of the C-130J-30 fleet will complement the ongoing Erciyes modernization program, aimed at upgrading the avionics systems of 19 aircraft at Kayseri-Erkilet Air Base.
These newly acquired aircraft, with their low flight hours and cost-effective maintenance, are expected to reduce operational expenses while significantly enhancing Turkey’s transport capabilities.
