Tu-214 Makes Emergency Landing: Nose Landing Gear Door Fails to Close

On 1st March, a RA-64518 Tu-214 flight from Zhukovsky Airport in Moscow to Tel Aviv was forced to make an emergency landing at Domodedovo International Airport. The incident details were reported by the Aviaincident Telegram channel.

The emergency landing was prompted by the failure of the aircraft’s nose landing gear door to close properly.

Incident Timeline: During flight RWZ019, while cruising at FL210 approximately 50 km southeast of Moscow, the flight crew requested a holding pattern. After conducting necessary checks, they were instructed to descend to FL130. At this point, the crew noticed that the nose landing gear door remained open at an altitude of 6,000 feet. According to reports, after the flight commander identified the issue, they decided to return to Domodedovo Airport within 80 minutes, due to the risk of running out of fuel.

The aircraft landed safely, with no fatalities or serious injuries reported.

Zhukovsky Airport’s Status: Last year, Zhukovsky Airport ranked among the top 30 airports in Russia in terms of passenger traffic. However, incidents like this highlight the need for heightened attention and precautionary measures by both the airport and airlines.
