As competition between the two giants of the global aviation industry continues, US President Donald Trump has shown strong support for Boeing, while Airbus appears to be moving forward in a politically quieter environment. However, according to experts, Airbus does not need any additional backing thanks to its already full order book of 8,716 aircraft. Boeing’s current orders stand at 6,531.
AlixPartners consultant Pascal Fabre told Euronews: “Today’s competition is less about securing new orders and more about operational processes and delivery speed. For Airbus’s A320 and A350 models, there is almost no delivery slot available until 2030.”
Strong Support from Trump for Boeing
US President Donald Trump recently announced Uzbekistan’s $8 billion order deal with Boeing as a “great deal.” His recent references to Qatar’s $96 billion Boeing order and a new agreement expected with Türkiye have also given momentum to the American manufacturer’s sales.
However, experts emphasise that Boeing’s delivery issues have negatively affected the company’s reputation. Grant Holve from Forecast International commented: “Trump’s statements are a positive signal for Boeing, but the company needs to deliver these orders on time.”
Airbus Strengthens Orders in Europe
While Boeing enjoys the advantage of political support, Airbus continues to secure strong orders in the European and Asian markets.
Vietjet Air: 20 Airbus A330-900s ordered during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Vietnam (€7 billion).
LOT Polish Airlines: First-ever Airbus order of 40 aircraft, marking a milestone in Poland’s aviation history.
Avolon (Ireland): 90 aircraft agreement, worth around €12.4 billion.
Thus, Airbus reinforced its global market strength with 600 new orders in 2024 alone.
Experts’ Common View
French MEP Christophe Grudler pointed out the interdependent production chain of the two manufacturers, stating: “The competition between Airbus and Boeing is not as sharp as it is often portrayed. The recent trade agreement between the US and the EU also exempted European aircraft from tariffs.”
