Istanbul Airport is adding another innovation to the field of aviation. Starting from April 17, Triple Parallel Runway Operations will become operational, enabling three aircraft to land and take off simultaneously.
Serving approximately 80 million passengers last year 17.1 million domestic and 62.9 million international passengers Istanbul Airport continues to solidify Turkey’s position as a global aviation hub.
Advanced Technology and Broad Capacity
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated, “With the Simultaneous Independent Triple Parallel Runway Operations system, the airport’s capacity will become far more efficient. Once all phases of Istanbul Airport are complete, it will facilitate flights for 150 airlines and serve more than 350 destinations.”
Increasing Passenger and Aircraft Traffic
Minister Uraloğlu highlighted a 7.5% increase in passenger traffic compared to 2023, reaching a total of 2,290,581 aircraft movements. He also emphasized Turkish Airlines (THY) as a significant contributor to Turkey’s foreign exchange revenues, noting that these operations generated a net profit of $8.5 billion, helping to reduce the country’s current account deficit.
Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, announced that THY will launch flights to Minneapolis in the U.S. as its 15th destination in America, starting in April or May.
Flights to Damascus to Resume
Minister Uraloğlu revealed that Turkish Airlines will resume flights to Damascus starting January 23, with a frequency of three flights per week. He described these flights as a cornerstone of a new era in Syria, stating, “We are sending delegations to Damascus to prepare for these flights. We aim for these operations to contribute to establishing stability in Syria.”
