On Sunday, March 30, at around 8 a.m., a small two-seater Cessna training aircraft crashed in the town of Lingayen, located in the Pangasinan province of the Philippines. The pilot and student pilot lost their lives in the accident.
Lingayen Police Chief Lieutenant Colonel Amor Somine stated that the aircraft took off again while approaching the airport where it was supposed to land. Somine explained that after landing, the aircraft took off again and crashed approximately one minute later.
In an interview about the accident, Somine said, “They mentioned that they were the tenth group and that this was supposed to be their last rotation. However, after landing, they took off again, and in less than a minute, the plane crashed.” He also noted that initial reports indicate the pilot issued a “Mayday, Mayday” distress call before the crash.
Following the accident, the pilot and student pilot were rushed to the hospital, but they were pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries occurred on the ground.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed the crash and announced that an official investigation had been launched to determine the cause. According to the statement, the Cessna training aircraft involved, registered as RP-C8595, was operated by Pilipinas Aerospace Academy Inc.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the pilot and student pilot, as they are waiting to notify their families. Additionally, Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil instructed Somine to invite all flight schools in Lingayen to a meeting on Sunday afternoon.
