A passenger plane of Japan Airlines, which took off from Komatsu Airport in Ishikawa Prefecture and was landing at Haneda Airport, suffered a tire burst during landing on the morning of January 9th. No injuries were reported in the incident, but the runway was temporarily closed, causing delays on some flights.
The Moment of the Explosion and Runway Closure
According to statements from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, and Japan Airlines, the incident occurred around 9:30 AM. It was determined that the tire burst during the landing of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The 65 passengers and crew members on board safely survived the incident.
Until the tire was replaced, one of the four runways at Haneda Airport, Runway B, was closed for about 20 minutes. During this time, 15 flights were forced to be redirected or delayed.
Quick Response Allowed Safe Towing of the Aircraft
After the accident, the aircraft was towed to the taxiway around 11:00 AM for the tire replacement. Once the procedure was completed, the plane was safely moved to the apron. Operations at Haneda Airport returned to normal shortly after.
Aviation Safety and Investigation Process
Japan Airlines and the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. The possibility of a technical failure or maintenance issue is being considered.
Flights and Passengers Affected
Due to the runway closure, 15 flights had to be redirected or delayed. Although the event caused temporary disruptions for passengers and airport operations, the situation was resolved with quick action before it turned into a bigger issue.
