Wide-Body Comfort to Northern Venice: St. Petersburg, the New Favourite of Turkish Travellers

Russia’s cultural capital, St. Petersburg, is increasingly attracting the attention of Turkish tourists. Thanks to visa-free entry, short flight times, and a captivating urban atmosphere, the city has seen a surge in demand from Türkiye. In response, Turkish Airlines will operate one of its daily Istanbul-St. Petersburg flights with a wide-body Airbus A330 starting 9 June 2025.

Known as the “Venice of the North” and Russia’s second-largest city, St. Petersburg has become a favourite destination for Turkish travel enthusiasts in recent years. Its architectural grandeur, world-renowned museums, and reputation as one of Europe’s safest cities all add to its allure.

Three Daily Flights, Now with A330 Comfort

THY currently operates three daily round-trip flights between Istanbul Airport and St. Petersburg. Due to growing passenger demand, one of these flights will be serviced by a 251-seat Airbus A330 starting 9 June 2025.

Business Class passengers will enjoy lie-flat seats, while Economy Class travellers will benefit from increased legroom and an overall enhanced travel experience.

Only 3.5 Hours to the Heart of Europe

St. Petersburg is just a 3.5-hour direct flight from Istanbul and offers easy access through an electronic visa (e-visa) system. Turkish citizens can apply online with just a passport and digital photo and receive the visa within four days. Valid for 60 days, the visa allows for up to 16 days of stay in the city.

More Travel Options to St. Petersburg

There are a total of seven daily direct flights from Türkiye to St. Petersburg. In addition to THY’s three daily flights from Istanbul Airport, Russian flag carrier Aeroflot operates one daily round-trip.

From Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport, Pegasus Airlines offers two daily flights, and AJet operates one flight per day—giving passengers a range of comfortable and flexible options.

St. Petersburg: A City of History, Art, and Elegance

With its picturesque canals earning it the nickname “Venice of the North,” St. Petersburg offers an unforgettable experience through landmarks such as the Hermitage Museum, Winter Palace, and Peterhof Palace. The city also stands out with its affordable accommodation and dining options, securing its place among the top travel destinations for the 2025 summer season.
