Türkiye has unveiled the design of its indigenously developed TF35000 turbofan engine, which delivers 35,000 lbf of thrust and will power the national fighter jet KAAN. The engine is being developed through a collaboration between TEI and TRMotor.
Another Historic Milestone in Türkiye’s Defence Industry
Türkiye has taken another historic step towards self-sufficiency in defence. The design of the TF35000, a high-performance national turbofan engine tailored to meet the demanding requirements of the fifth-generation KAAN fighter jet, has been officially shared with the public. The development process is being coordinated by the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) in collaboration with TEI and TRMotor.
KAAN: A New Era in Türkiye’s Air Power
As one of Türkiye’s most strategic future-oriented defence projects, the National Combat Aircraft KAAN stands out not only for its advanced technical features but also for its potential impact on regional power dynamics. Equipped with stealth capabilities, superior manoeuvrability, and next-generation electronic systems, KAAN is being prepared for the battlefield of the future.
Among the most critical components of this advanced platform is the engine—long intended to be developed domestically. The TF35000’s design has now been published for the first time on TEI’s official website.
Domestic Engine Initiative by TEI and TRMotor
Recognised as one of the largest aerospace engine initiatives in Türkiye, the TF35000 draws attention for its high temperature resistance, efficient combustion chamber design, and advanced compressor technology. This indigenous engine is being specially developed to meet all performance needs of KAAN.
Under the guidance of the Presidency of Defence Industries, the project not only enhances Türkiye’s domestic engineering capabilities but also aims to reduce dependence on foreign technology.
Entering Service in the 2030s
KAAN successfully completed its maiden flight in 2023. It is expected to be fully integrated with the TF35000 engine and enter the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces in the early 2030s. This marks a major milestone in Türkiye’s pursuit of an independent and powerful air force.
