A Southwest Airlines passenger plane flying from Houston to Phoenix was forced to return to the airport shortly after take-off due to an unusual incident. A female passenger began undressing and running naked through the cabin, leaving fellow travellers in shock.
25 Minutes of Panic
On flight 733, departing from William P. Hobby Airport, an unidentified female passenger suddenly started removing her clothes. According to eyewitnesses, the woman roamed the cabin naked, shouting for around 25 minutes. The incident was captured on a mobile phone camera by passenger Macy Estevez, with footage showing the woman dancing in the cabin.
Attempted to Enter the Cockpit
According to a Daily Mail report, the woman claimed she had bipolar disorder and wanted to get off the plane. She allegedly punched the cockpit door, trying to force her way inside. After the cabin crew intervened, the aircraft returned to its departure airport and made a safe landing.
Police Intervention
Once the plane reached the gate, Houston police arrested the woman and handed her over to medical teams for evaluation. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether criminal charges will be filed. Southwest Airlines apologised to passengers for the incident and assured them that efforts would be made to resolve the disruption as swiftly as possible.
“No One Intervened” Complaint
Passengers on board expressed their fear during the incident. Speaking to KHOU11, one passenger said: “The woman suddenly started undressing and ran down the aisle screaming. The cabin crew didn’t intervene adequately.”
Experts remind passengers facing similar situations to stay calm, keep their distance from potentially dangerous individuals, and only step in when directed by cabin crew. After the incident, staff wrapped the woman in a blanket and escorted her off the plane.
