Nigeria’s leading flag carrier Air Peace has confirmed that its flight P47190, which departed this morning from Lagos Murtala Muhammed Airport to Port Harcourt International Airport, veered off the runway upon landing.
The aircraft briefly exited the runway boundaries during the landing. Speaking about the incident, airline spokesperson Osifo-viski Efe stated that the plane “slightly skidded off the runway” and that there was no structural damage.
“All our passengers were safely disembarked, and no injuries were recorded,” Efe said in a statement. “We reiterate our commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in all our operations for the flying public.”

Similar Incident Reported Previously
This marks the second runway excursion recorded in Nigeria in the past seven months. On December 11, 2024, an Allied Air Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft also veered off the runway at Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, ending up on a grassy area. No casualties were reported in that incident either.
In aviation, a “runway excursion” refers to an aircraft departing the runway surface or boundaries during takeoff or landing and is considered a serious safety event in airport operations.
Air Peace stated that an official investigation into the incident is underway and that they are cooperating with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
