A horrific plane crash in the Swiss Alps has claimed the lives of renowned Danish lawyers Line Markert and Andreas Christensen, along with their son. Swiss police confirmed that the accident occurred on Monday at around 17:00.
The crash took place shortly after take-off when the small propeller plane, departing from Samedan Airport near St. Moritz en route to Roskilde, Denmark, lost altitude and crashed near the village of La Punt Chamues in the Graubünden canton.
A statement from Danish law firm Horten confirmed that those who lost their lives were Line Markert, a partner at the firm, senior lawyer Andreas Christensen, and their son. In a condolence message, the firm expressed: “We are deeply saddened and shocked by this tragic event. Line and Andreas had been an integral part of Horten for over 20 years. This is a personal loss for all of us.” Employees at the firm’s three different offices were informed of the tragedy in a meeting on Tuesday morning.
Swiss federal police have launched an investigation into the crash. Authorities stated that while official identification is still pending, initial findings indicate that the victims were the Danish family. The cause of the crash and who was piloting the aircraft remain unclear.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported hearing a loud explosion at the time of the crash, followed by rising smoke. The aircraft reportedly came down just 20 metres from a residential building.
