Swiss Edelweiss Air’s A320 aborted takeoff at high speed

Swiss Edelweiss Air’s Airbus A320-200, registered as HB-IHY, performing flight 8R-298 from Zurich to Faro, Portugal, aborted takeoff when the aircraft suddenly veered left and right during acceleration. The crew decided to abort the takeoff at high speed (140 knots). The aircraft decelerated without leaving the runway, exited the runway, and parked at an open parking area.

Passengers reported that during the acceleration for takeoff, the aircraft began to sway strongly to the left and right, with unsecured items flying inside the cabin. Passengers were deplaned using stairs and taken to the terminal.

Edelweiss Airlines reported that the aircraft exhibited abnormal behavior during acceleration, leading to the decision to abort takeoff. Additionally, it was noted that the tires burst during braking. The Swiss Safety Investigation Board (SUST) initiated an investigation into the serious incident. Initial findings indicate that shortly before reaching V1 speed, the aircraft significantly veered left of the runway centerline, prompting the decision to reject takeoff.
