Istanbul Airport, one of Turkey’s mega projects, has achieved yet another historic milestone in European aviation. According to the European Aviation Report published by EUROCONTROL for the week of May 5–11, Istanbul Airport became Europe’s busiest airport, averaging 1,475 flights per day.
Outpacing Major European Airports
The report shows that Istanbul Airport surpassed key European hubs such as Amsterdam Schiphol (1,402 flights), Frankfurt (1,366 flights), Paris Charles De Gaulle (1,353 flights), and London Heathrow (1,346 flights) to claim the top spot.
A Tangible Success of Turkey’s Transport Vision
Experts highlight that this achievement reflects Turkey’s recent strategic transportation policies, infrastructure investments, and visionary approach to air travel. Istanbul Airport is not just a transit point; it stands at the heart of Turkey’s goals for logistics, tourism, and economic development.
A Symbol of National Strength: A Strong Step Toward Becoming a Regional Hub
Spearheaded by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, this mega project reinforces Turkey’s ambition to become a regional hub for air transportation while steadily advancing toward becoming one of the world’s leading aviation centres.
