SunExpress has been awarded the “Most Innovative Airline Initiative” by Future Travel Experience (FTE). The airline stood out in the industry and contributed to its sustainability goals with its AI-powered baggage weight prediction model used in flight operations.
More Accurate Planning and Lower Emissions Through Artificial Intelligence
Launched in April 2024, the AI model significantly improves the accuracy of predicting an aircraft’s zero fuel weight (ZFW), optimising flight planning. The system has eliminated estimation errors of 100 to 150 kilograms per flight—resulting in an average carbon dioxide saving of 6.2 kg per flight.
Unlike traditional fixed assumptions, the model analyses flight-specific and real-time data to deliver more precise results. As a result, critical processes that were previously performed manually have now been fully integrated into automated systems.

During the evaluation process—where finalist airlines and airports presented their projects live to a panel of judges and industry representatives—SunExpress secured first place through both jury assessment and audience voting.
