SunExpress Airlines has officially launched direct flights between Bursa’s Yenişehir Airport and Stuttgart, Germany. The inaugural Stuttgart–Bursa flight landed successfully at Yenişehir Airport.
Special Welcome for the First Flight
To mark the occasion, a welcome ceremony was held for the arriving passengers and crew. The delegation included:
-
Mustafa Esgin, AK Party Deputy Chair of the Central Organisation and Head of the Bursa Airline Joint Initiative Group
-
Ercan Özel, Mayor of Yenişehir
-
Other local officials and protocol members
Passengers and pilots were treated to Bursa’s famous chestnut candy.
Esgin: “Yenişehir is the strongest alternative to Istanbul”
In a statement following the welcome, Mustafa Esgin noted that the Stuttgart flight is the second scheduled international route to Bursa after Düsseldorf. He expressed satisfaction with the fully booked arrival of the inaugural flight from Stuttgart.
Highlighting the potential of Yenişehir Airport, Esgin stated:
“Yenişehir Airport is the nearest and most viable alternative to Istanbul’s airports. Its proximity to the city centre and ease of access make it stand out. The airport currently offers scheduled flights to five domestic destinations (Diyarbakır, Muş, Erzurum, Trabzon, Antalya, Adana) and two international destinations (Düsseldorf and Stuttgart).”
Esgin also mentioned that with the completion of the high-speed train connection next year, passengers will be able to reach the airport from Balat in just 15 minutes—offering a significant convenience for travellers from South Marmara and Istanbul.
Yenişehir Mayor Özel: Targeting the Balkans and the Arabian Peninsula
Yenişehir Mayor Ercan Özel expressed his happiness about the inaugural flight and shared ongoing efforts to expand the airport’s international flight network.
He stated that the municipality is working on launching new destinations across Europe and the Arabian Peninsula, adding that negotiations are underway with two airlines for flights to the Middle East and with tour operators for routes to the Balkans.
