SunExpress Reaches 500,000 Passengers at Birmingham Airport
UK-based SunExpress has reached a major milestone by surpassing 500,000 passengers at Birmingham Airport in just two years. The airline, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, continues to strengthen its presence in the UK market with flights primarily to Turkish destinations.
Rising Demand for Flights to Turkey
Since launching operations from Birmingham Airport in 2022, SunExpress has attracted strong interest from British holidaymakers by offering direct connections to Turkey’s most popular holiday destinations, including Antalya, Dalaman, and Izmir. With increased demand during the summer months, the Birmingham–Turkey route has become one of the standout connections in the UK travel market.
Promotional Campaign and Passenger Appreciation
Celebrating the achievement of half a million passengers, SunExpress organised a special promotional event in cooperation with Birmingham Airport. Through a social media raffle, passengers were given the chance to win return tickets to Turkey. The event served as both a celebration of success and a gesture of gratitude to loyal travellers.
Strategic Growth and Future Plans
SunExpress continues its rapid growth in the UK and Irish markets. By 2025, the airline plans to offer around 2 million seats in the region, connecting travellers to over 230 destinations through its expanding network. Its success at Birmingham Airport demonstrates SunExpress’s long-term commitment to the UK market.
Strong Position in a Competitive Market
With Birmingham Airport’s growing passenger capacity, SunExpress’s steady expansion highlights its ability to provide British travellers with affordable, reliable, and comfortable connections to Turkey. Celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2025, the airline aims to further strengthen its position as a key player in the European travel market.
