SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, has partnered with Eskişehir Technical University (ESTÜ) to launch an employment-guaranteed aircraft maintenance technician career development program. This initiative aims to train qualified aircraft maintenance technicians for the aviation sector.
The program, created in collaboration between SunExpress and ESTÜ, which is the only university in the world with an international airport, is designed to enhance students’ professional skills and ensure employment after graduation. The program’s inauguration took place at ESTÜ’s Conference Hall, with Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan Özcan and SunExpress Deputy General Manager Tuncay Eminoğlu in attendance.
A Critical Partnership for the Growing Demand for Technical Personnel in Aviation
Prof. Dr. Adnan Özcan, Rector of Eskişehir Technical University, emphasized the increasing need for qualified technical personnel due to the expected 7% annual growth in the aviation sector in the coming years. He stated, “This program will support our students’ career journeys while helping us train the expert staff that the sector needs. Through this project, in partnership with innovative organizations like SunExpress, our students will gain the skills necessary to meet industry expectations.”
SunExpress’ Investment in the Future
SunExpress Deputy General Manager Tuncay Eminoğlu highlighted that the employment-guaranteed program supports young people’s career development while addressing the aviation sector’s need for skilled workers. Eminoğlu said, “The demand for qualified personnel who can meet advancing aviation technologies and high safety standards is growing every day. With this program, we aim to develop young talents in the best way possible and integrate them into our expanding SunExpress family as part of our 2035 goals.”
2035 Goal: A Fleet of 166 Aircraft and a Strong Technical Team
Eminoğlu outlined SunExpress’s goal to expand its fleet to 166 aircraft by 2035, with strengthening the technical team as a top priority. Under the program, 3rd and 4th-year students from ESTÜ’s aircraft body and engine maintenance, as well as aviation electronics departments, will work part-time at SunExpress. Successful candidates after graduation will have the opportunity to work full-time at SunExpress and participate in professional training programs both domestically and internationally.
Empowering Students’ Careers Through Information Sessions
During the launch event, experts from SunExpress’ maintenance department provided students with detailed information about the aircraft maintenance technician career development and support program. Students were informed about the career opportunities the program offers and the advantages the partnership will bring to their professional future in the industry.
This comprehensive program will not only meet SunExpress’ need for qualified personnel but also offer ESTÜ students a gateway into the aviation sector, contributing to the development of a skilled technician workforce in Turkey’s aerospace industry.
