Sukhoi Superjet-100 Crashes After Maintenance

According to Russian state news agency TASS on Friday, a passenger plane crashed in the Moscow region, killing all three crew members on board.

TASS reported that the Sukhoi Superjet-100 crashed during a test flight in the Kolomensky district of the Moscow region. The report stated that there were three crew members on the plane and no passengers.

The aircraft, operated by Gazpromavia, a Moscow-based airline providing passenger and cargo transportation for Russia’s oil and gas industry, was manufactured in 2014 and exclusively operated by Gazprom. The plane, flying from the Voronin Production Center outside Moscow to the capital’s Vnukovo Airport, crashed approximately 20 kilometers from its departure point.

It was reported that the Superjet crashed just three hours after undergoing maintenance. The plane sent a distress signal and unsuccessfully attempted to circle to burn off fuel before crashing.
